I have been collecting and mixing drum and bass since early 2004, buying my first set of decks early 2005. Coming from a metal and hip hop background, when I first heard drum and bass circa 1999 it was a natural progression…
Alongside the other members of the Incite crew (Ad Locum & Enkrypta), I’m proud to have provided local support for some of New Zealands’ biggest names, including Concord Dawn, State Of Mind, Bulletproof, Trei, The Upbeats, Antiform, Tiki Taane, Nanotek, and Sick Cycle.
Together as a crew we have held a monthly drum and bass night at Krazy Jacks bar for the last 2 years, with more on the horizon…
I have recently turned my hand to collecting and mixing Dubstep, no longer able to contain my excitement about this rapidly rising genre! The fun has only just begun…
Music is a huge part of my life and a big thing for me is being able to get NZ music out to the ears of the masses, I love being able to play a whole heap of it on my shows and I’m stoked to be a part of the bopfm crew… Let the beats roll!
So tune into my drum and bass show, System Bypass, from 7pm every Sunday night, and my Dubstep show, Substorm, every Thursday night from 9pm…

Brutus Powers

Breaking into the DJ side of things June 2009, playing music has become a new passion and is certainly the start of something crazy!
Influenced by friends who spin and big room DJ’s, my style is comprised of down beat funk, broken beat, house and of course big room bangers.
I have had the opportunity since starting out to get involved with some of the best in NZ. Working with other DJ’s especially from different styles is an awesome part of things at the moment…
The Hi Tea Show on Saturdays 3-7pm will incorporate all elements of my musical influences and will feature all of the best National and International DJs plus heaps of cool giveaways for you to score!
Catch me on bop or out in town.

Campbell

Originally from Gisborne, Cam has been local for 10 years. A reasonably seasoned record collector, he has followed numerous dance music trends over the years which have culminated in a stack of vinyl (from jazz-dance to rare groove, disco to garage, hiphop to broken beat).
Join him on Sundays for the SWEET POWER SOUND – excursions into SOUL / FUNK / JAZZ and related grooves….
Influences: Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Paul Phillips (Solar Radio), Keb Darge, Jason Stirland, Jason Palma (Higher Ground Radio, Toronto), KON & AMIR, all reggae/soul sound systems over the world…
Dub Down Deluxe

Been collecting beats as soon as I could work a tape recorder. Stepped it up to wax early this decade, collecting many rare cuts particularly of a Kiwi Dub based electronic style. Love a big range of sound from down beat n’ trip hop right up through Dub n Reggae, skanking ska, jungle n base heavy D&B. Pretty much if its quality music I can appreciate it.
Moved Melbourne ways 2003 for a many years more than planned stint, and got well exposed to a primo live scene.
A big highlight there was supporting The Mad Professor and holding down residencies at Melbourne institutions, Revolver Upstairs and E55.
Major passion is pushing the wealth of talented acts coming from these shores. Aotearoa’s at the cutting edge of beat quality, all flavours the world over.

I have been DJing for about 8 years now. I stumbled across the dance scene around 2000. I originally drooled over hardhouse as I clubbed like an energiser bunny throughout the weekends. I eventually found myself jammin on the decks with the desire to listen to everything I could get my hands on.
In 2004 I was given the opportunity to play with some well respected local DJ’s, and later given a residency mixing up ‘many a stompings’ on the dancefloor of ROMA on the weekends. Meanwhile on weeknights you could find me at friend’s houses, wine in hand, playing crates of handbag disco house till we fell over. As it so happens my musical appetite ended up being extremely vast, with favourite genres such as progressive, tribal, funky house, DnB and jungle, but throughout the years and my constant widening tastebuds, breakbeat has always had a soft spot in my eardrums.
By mid 2005 I was also organising and promoting many gigs in Tauranga such as BAK2BASSICKS and OUTBREAK with guest DJ’s from all round New Zealand. 2005 was a good year! I have been lucky to have played in a few clubs now. Some loved me, and some weren’t to happy with me wanting to obliviate their floorboards ….at only 1am.
Nowadays you’re more likely to find me mixing sweet dirty tech house in the heat of the afternoon, but it doesn’t take long for me to progress to filthy eye-bleeding breakbeat/drum and bass, whenever my mood so chooses.
I have been involved in local radio in various ways throughout the last 4 years, hosting my own breakbeat show, and recently hosting the Mashbox on Thursday nights 7pm-9pm with the ol’ fulla Professor Bing. Due to becoming a full time Art Student, I now mix it up occasionally on the show as a guest…I am a temporary ‘where’s wally’ – I could pop up anywhere at any time!
Bigs Ups to Aotearoa Soundz and definitely bopfm, and all of the people that make it happen….Arohanui !!!!!!! xx

Haze first picked up a 12″ Record in 1996 after watching his heroes at the Brain spin out rave music and decided he wanted to be a part of it! 1997 saw a residency at P104 and his first largescale dance party – the Brain.

Working part-time at Criminal Records and Needle on the Record saw Haze sell a truckload of vinyl to many an establishes and up and coming DJ and forge great relationships with the wonderful people involved in the scene.
From here multiple dance parties including the Brain & Lagered were the flavor of the next few years whereupon Haze launched into residencies at Kiss, Bed, Staircase, Jones and has played at many many gigs over the years. With major parties like Gatecrasher, Slinky, MOS, Godskitchen, The Big Club Night Out, Fevah, Tidy Trax, Zebedee, Dsicoteque, Frantic, Chemistry, and Industry under his belt Haze has played directly alongside massive internationals BK, Nick Sentience, James Lawson, Lisa Lashes, Paul Glazby, Ben Stevens, Ilogic, Adam M, Skol, Matt Clarke, Ingo, Steve Hill, Ian M, Lee Haslam, Captain Tinrib, K90, Phil Reynolds and Steve Blake.

Production wise Haze in collaboration with Manik has produced over 13 tracks with many being picked up by major labels for cd compilations and digital downloads:

Hoki
I clicked onto DJ’s at a High School and started playing at 15 with three tape-decks and an amp/tuner. I used to sit a stereo tape-deck in front of the TV and record music from RTR & Radio With Pictures. Buying and getting music became an obsessive passion.
I moved to Tauranga in late ’86 and became friends with Terry Gabb & Jason Adams who I credit with first bringing House Music to clubs in Tauranga. Eventually I became the Resident DJ at Roma/Gold Bar and played there every weekend for 5 years doing 5-8hr sets a night before I moved to London to immerse myself in The Dance Music Capital of the UK. I DJ’d and worked in clubs in London for about 4 1/2yrs before moving back to Tauranga.
Throwing myself back into the scene again, I began playing at Buddha Lounge, and also on a local station.
I could go on about all the NZ DJ’s I’ve played with …. Andy Vann, Roger Perry, OB1, Soane, Sample Gee, General Lee, Manuel Bundy, Clare Del, Dick Johnson, Ben Davis, Abbra, Stretch, Aeon, Enkrypta, Ad Locum, Macca, Junior, Sneaky Pete, Kevstar, Nimbus, Static, Nimrod, Ingo …….
…… or the DJ’s I played or worked with in the UK…. Graham Gold, Pele, Darren Pearce (JDS), Dave Lambert, DJ Hype, Andy C, Adam F, Mampi Swift, Nicky Blackmarket, Slippmat, Phil Reynolds, Lab4, K90, Tara Reynolds, Lisa Pin-Up, Steve Hill, James Lawson, Nick Sentience, Lisa Lashes, Donna Birt, Superfast Oz, Mark Johnson, James Nardi, Chris Coombes, Anne Savage, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Robert Owens, S Gachet, Food Junkie, Sharp Boys, Stevie B, Paul Heron, Oli, Paul Martin, Pagano, Gonzalo, David Jimenez, Alan K, Frankie Foncett, Nik Denton, Tinrib, Ian M, Karim, Andy Farley, Paul Glazby, Per QX, Rob Sykes, Rob Tissera, Ed Real, **Ting** ……… to name a few, but I won’t …….
I just wanna say I’m loving being involved with a station that comes from a “true love” of music background and wants to educate its listeners as well as entertain. My show will reflect my love of House Music and also some of the other genres I love as well.
Catch me on Sundays with “The Sinful Sessions” 3-7pm

J2D
THE GRINDHOUSE : “Takes No Prisoners!!!!”
J2D, AKA Justin Drake, was born and raised in the south west of England. Beginning his musical journey at the tender age of 11, joining a roadshow disco company and learning and watching how to get all types of people of all ages up and dancing. By the age of 13 J2D set up his own roadshow disco, and was playing all over the south west of England. It was soon abundant that dance music and the club scene was what he wanted to continuedoing, and at the age of 16 gained his first nightclub residency at the ‘Asylum’ in North Devon. Never looking back, he went on to gain residencies at ’Route 66’, ’Ceasars palace’, ’Euphoria’, ’Neros’, ’Oasis’, ’Mission’, and headlining at many other venues all across the south of England. Back then, hard house, NRG and hard trance was his style, and after a couple years of grooming in the club scene, it was time to play with the big boys.
He went on to play at ’The monastery’, ’Claires’, ’Hindsight’, ’The countryclub’, ’The dance academy’ and many, many more. By now he was playing alongside some of the best acts in the world including Lisa Lashes, the TidyBoys, Ferry Corsten, Mark EG, Paul Glazby, Lisa pin-up, Anne Savage, Judge Jules, Kym Ayres, Amber D, Eddie Halliwell, Andy Whitby, Dave Pearce and so many more.
His influences and heroes in the DJ scene would be Judge Jules for his dedication to the scene, Eddie Halliwell for his technique and ability to dowhat he can, and Mark EG for his energy and ability to get any dance floor
rockin’.
Now, in the great NZ, J2D plays a different style of music and has proven himself worthy as a DJ in the scene. He has absolutely rocked dance floors up and down the north island, and he has no plans on easing up. Jamoody
As an avid house music enthusiast for many years DJ Jamoody first started collecting records from 2nd hand stores and garage sales in the late eighties. But his love of music started at an earlier age on visits to his grandparents. Scattering records across the lounge floor and studying the cover artworks by people like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley. Loving the pure act of watching the armature of the record player lift, move, and drop ever so smoothly. Wondering how amazing a biscuit thin, round black slice of plastic with precision spiraling grooves could make sound.
His next most interesting moment was when he made his first radio. A Xmas present, build your on radio kit from Dick Smith. Building his very first mix tapes at age ten by pulling apart dozens of tapes then gluing sections of tape back together, Jamoody would take his tapes to school and roll out the vinyl floor sheet at lunchtimes to kick off break-dance sessions.
As a student Jamoody would frequent a Christchurch hiphop and R&B bar and experience Dj’s like Greg Churchill and Oscar kightley. If there was a turning point it would have to be after seeing live performances in the nineties by Derek May, Mark Farina, Doc Scott, Dj Sneak and Derek Carter. These experiences cemented the motivation to take the next step and take on the DJ role with full force.
It wasn’t long before he set himself up with his own turntables and after jamming countless backyards, lounge bars, warehouse parties and promo gigs, Jamoody is enthusiastic about jamming his funky bass line driven grooves over the airwaves. His mix will infuse early influences of Jazz, Soul, reggae and blues with the infectious Jackin beat of House.
Be sure to tune into “JACK’IN THE BOX” and see if Jamoody can make you catch the bug.
Jhoc
I moved to auckland in 1999 where I quickly got hooked into the club scene. Trance and Progressive house was where it was at for me then. About 2001 leaned towards hardhouse in a big way. Started buying vinyl and learned to mix in 2002.
The next 3 years I played at a number of “Meow” hardhouse parties on Aucklands K’road. 2005 I promoted and brought over UK’s DJ Banga Matt for Auckland and Hamilton gigs.
Since then, I have moved back to my hometown of Tauranga and now play a broader range of styles of music. Electro/House/Techno and Drum and Bass. I hope to get a few of my own beats out there in the next couple of years and see where things go from there.

Kandi Luv
I’ve always been a music lover… right from when I was a kid dancing in the living room to my mums favourite albums… she was a groover! I spent the 90′s in London right amongst the music revolution that was happening there. I always remember the first tune that crossed me over into dance was The Prodigy’s tune ’3 kilos’. And it wasn’t just the ‘choons’ that were fabulous, it was the whole culture of dance…. the all night love festivals on the dance floor – totally fell in love with House music genres – uplifting, fluffy, hard, deep, trance… ! Another stand out album for the 90′s was Leftism by Leftfield – played everywhere, especially at the afterparty chillouts.
Now I cruise it a bit more with global tunes that have an asian flava – alot of which I’ve collected from the different countries I’ve travelled to. It was great to come back to NZ and find our music scene flourishing – outfits like Sola Rosa, Shapeshifter, Pitchblack, Salmonella Dub and all the usual dub suspects are favourites. Kiwi music is excellent especially when its not covers of the old stuff. I still love old school dance but just as easily get into liquid drum n bass. Whatever music it is tho’ – its gotta have some Luv in it!
Marty D

Marty was born in Wellington but moving to Tauranga in ’86, has lived in Tauranga almost his whole life. He lives in Papamoa with his lovely partner in crime (also a DJ with music in her blood) and their two children, with their dog ‘DJ’ and their cat ‘Cuz’. He loves basketball and Xmen, Silversurfer, TV etc etc…but if you think this sounds like the ‘average and normal’ man…wait till you hear his tunes…you’d be sadly mistaken.
From barman to Resident DJ at Roma Gold Bar in it’s last years, Marty spun hard house, and he spun it well. With well over 8 years Djing now, his true passion however, is house music – especially chicago house – deriving from R & B, Soul, Jazz, Gospel and Hip-Hop.
Marty has been lucky enough to play at some of the best clubs nationwide; Roma, The Buddha Lounge, Sekure, The Loft, Monkey Bar, Coast Bar, INK Bar, Club 55 etc and play with some well acclaimed national and international DJ’s is; Tania D, Uncle Phil, Andy Van, Corey Steers, Greg Churchill, Inland Knights, Derrick Carter, Ian Pooley, Jason Hodges, Tara Reynolds..the list goes on
Marty is now a part of bopfm, slamming those good tunes through the airwaves with Jamoody on their show Jack’in the Box on Fridays 7pm-9pm.
“A huge thanks to bopfm for bringing 105.4 to Tauranga” – Marty Dingle
Moe
Born and bred in Tauranga, my passion for dance music started at the age of 16. Many a nights were spent in Auckland at dance parties and clubs, experiencing amazing local and international acts. But after spending 5 years on the floor I decided to take it to the another level.
So in a basement at the base of the Mount grew Bassment Beats! And from there my passion and experience just grew. After a year in the U.K checking out all the clubs where dance music begins, seeing a few of my DJ heros and even playing a few gigs there, Im back in the Bay and over the moon to be on the airwaves of 105.4 BOPFM!
Twisted Disco Friday night 9.30pm to 12pm (with Jhoc)
Nimbus
Nimbus – Recently returned from Brisbane Australia. Born and raised on Wheat Bix and big beats in New Zealand.
Nimbus was in high school when he began mixing beats and samples back in ’92 on his Amiga500. After answering an ad in the news paper for “DJ WANTED” his interest in music naturally developed into regular work, and before long he was well known for his passion and professional djing skill.
With his ability to combine music into his sets that spanned both the mainstream and the underground, he quickly attracted clubbers of all types, seeking something new. After making his mark in the Waikato night-club scene Nimbus was seduced by the energy of Roma Nightclub here in Tauranga and moved here permanently to be part of the team.
Eventually Nimbus and DJ Static teamed up and began regular bookings around the North island under the guise of “Substance” which led to a radio show on a local station, and further involvement in the local DJ scene. These days you will most commonly catch Nimbus playing at The Buddha Lounge on the Strand in Tauranga.
Over the years the clubs have changed, and so have the people. Nimbus now is more likely to be heard playing dirty electro and progressive tech house sets rather than his older times of hard trance and high energy dance music. Even so, his musical tastes still span many genres, to all extremes, and he is well known for playing outside the expected norm.
Nimbus has recently made a welcome return to Zealand after a 12 month excursion to Australia where he learned a different scene, and studied at SAE music institute. Nimbus is a highly technical DJ and is savy with all kinds of dj and production technology. You might see him mixing from turntables one night and from a laptop the next.
“The world is a smorgasbord of music – I feel like a fat kid in a candy shop”
Nimrod
Nimrod’s sound in eclectic, electric and unique.
Slow grooves to in your face madness.
Having grown up in a musical and artistic household, Chris Ramage (aka Nimrod)’s love for music developed from an early age, starting with learning many instruments from the beginning of his school years and starting to Dj’in at age 16 and event coordination at 18 and made quite a name for himself around, moving on to start producing in his early 20’s
Having a love for music made him want to enter into the music industry in any form and quickly became involved in local radio hosting 8 shows a week and Dj’in most nights of the weekend!
Nimrod now hosts his weekly show called Stimulus on bop fm 105.4 on Wednesday nights 7 till 9.
Scottie
Having had a passion for reggae most of his life, Scottie naturally tuned an ear for the dub sound when it took hold of NZ..gathering an eclectic global and local homegrown collection of dub, reggae, roots, electronica and dancehall over the years.
Whether he’s spinning 7″ Jamican Reggae or droppin dem phat NZ dub and reggae beats, tune in to Natural Riddim on Monday evenings 7pm-9m to get your weekly fix of the true rub-a-dub stylez.
Sharky
Born in west auckland …way out west, Sharky was just a youngster when he moved to the
sunny far north of Kaitaia, where rap music ruled the stereo.
It’s a different story now, with Sharky finding himself drawn to yet another sunny paradise, Tauranga. Times change, and so does the music style …its electro, techno and breaks that come cranking out of the stereo now, with avid passion.
Tune into “On the Floor” with Sharky and Nimbus mixing it up on the decks Saturday nights, playing the newest baddest beats out.
