Autumn 2010

Hey there!

It’s so nice to be back and to welcome in the new fashion year with fellow fashion and accessory lovers!

Supplying jewellery to nearly 40 stores in NZ, I have to do my fashion research! Annie Blackberry is very excited to have two new stockists: HiFashion in Taupo and Little Rock in Kaikoura. Nothing like going whale-watching with a nautical themed Annie Blackberry necklace.

WHAT’S HOT:
I must say I am absolutely loving the new season look –it’s the most exciting we’ve seen in a long time. Here’s what I’ve spotted as being the biggest trends to date:

*Fantasy Fashion – The jewellery and fashion industry seems very closely tied in with the movies these days. Not only is Alice and Wonderland set to be huge on the big screen, it’s also coming through strongly in top magazine fashion shoots and was even the theme of The City star Whitney’s debut fashion line. Whether it be a delicately boned coset with full fairytale-style skirt or an elaborate intense floral sundress with oversized bow belt and ballet flats, you can channel the prettiest Alice the world’s ever seen while having high tea with the Mad Hatter.

*Wolves, fangs, faux claws and deep red with black are all also still going strong thanks to Twilight series craze.

*Biker Chic(k) – Leather jackets, minis, boots and tight jeans. This season’s hottest look will have you looking like you just stepped off your Harley J

*Military Might – One of my personal favourites is military style fashion. At least one aspect of military-style clothing or accessory is in fashion at any one time. But now we have a huge resurgence of many combative trends right from the ancient gladiatorial trends right through to modern day armed forces get-up. Whether it be khaki tapered pants or an Annie Blackberry tank, bullet and vintage robot pendant you’ll look the part.

I must state for the record that I am no way a fan of war or warmongering and I’m also not into civilians wearing replicas of medals, I just like uniform style clothing. In fact if you’re a peace child why not grab yourself a peace sign pendant or tee?

*Futuristic Fabulousness – Whether an Annie Blackberry vintage robot pendant (hey, I’m allowed to push my brand, I write the column! J ) or a block colour A-symmetrical square-cut dress the future is here! If you’re really brave try an ultra short textured cut or even a LadyMo (see the current Fashion Quarterly for inspiration).

*The Usual Suspects – And then there’s the fashion that you see on the street, that everyone seems to be wearing despite all the fashion mags. And that would be, for guys: long baggy tee with something random on the front, a long chain, tight jean shorts and jandals. Add a little fluro and a pair of wayfarers. Girls: a cutie floral summer dress with belt, wayfarers and a long Annie Blackberry chain.

Hope you have the best year ever and look forward to hearing from you.
